EXALTED RULER'S MESSAGE

The year is almost over and I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please consider bringing a toy to the lodge before the 16th for the foster kids of Hernando County.  A reminder that there is only one lodge meeting in December since the 4th Monday is Christmas Day.
As we go into next year, I would like to see everyone at the lodge for at least one function. May God bless and protect our troops everywhere they may be stationed and bring them home safely to their families soon.

Larry White, P.E.R.

HOUSE COMMITTEE MESSAGE

Welcome to December everyone! First off, the house committee would like to wish everyone a safe & happy holiday season! While a lot of us will be getting into the Christmas spirit with parties, shopping for gifts, and Christmas dinners with family & friends some folks may no longer enjoy those traditions. A smile or kind word on the street may just be what some people need. If you know someone who may be alone for the holiday season, please feel free to invite them to the Lodge Christmas party on December 16th. (Steak dinner night, along with steak we will also be serving ham and a few traditional sides.) Mid Life Crisis will be here with the beautiful voices to keep everyone dancing and singing along. Don’t forget to wear your ugly sweater! There just may be a prize involved. As always, please everyone; purchase your dinner tickets in advance. We ask you to do so to make sure we know how much food to make. Thank you!
Our Children’s Christmas Party is also on December 16th, from 11am to 2 pm. This is for the children who are in Hernando County’s Foster Program. Anyone who would like to come help, clean up or set up would be greatly appreciated. There are also gifts to wrap for the children, so there will be a wrapping party at the Lodge on December 3rd @ 4pm. Paper, tape, and scissors will be available but if you have some to donate please feel free to bring it. Drink specials will be available for our volunteers.
For those who enjoy the steak shoot and spaghetti dinner, don’t forget it will be held on the second Saturday… December 9th. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience. We will be back on track in January.
If you haven’t purchased your tickets for New Year’s Eve yet, please do so now. They are $30 if you are eating and $20 if you are not. We will be serving prime rib. There will also be raffles, an auction, and perhaps a surprise or two! Tickets are available at the bar. Let’s make this a wonderful entry into the New Year by coming together in friendship, fellowship and its proud Elk membership.
On a bit of a serious note, we want to add, just like in many organizations, or even families, not everyone will always agree with one another or perhaps even get along with each other.  The Elks is no different.  Let’s take a moment and think of why we became Elks: charity, fundraising, socializing, brotherhood, fellowship?  As members, we know the Elks donate to various charities, fundraisers, veteran’s organizations, and even support other organizations.  What we don’t do, enough of anyway, is support each other and our own Elks Lodge.  Please remember that to keep doing the wonderful work the Elks do, and support, it is greatly needed in our own lodge, as well.
Just by coming to a Friday night dinner, or a steak dinner, steak shoot, veterans’ day picnic or New Years’ Eve Party, these things help keep our lodge running so we can continue doing charitable work for others.  Remember, charity begins at home.
On a final note, we sincerely want to thank everyone who donates their time and efforts by volunteering, clearing up, cooking, organizing, maintenance, mowing lawns, or building a “future spice cabinet for the kitchen”, whether you volunteer once or all the time, you are all greatly appreciated.  We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
God Bless,
The House Committee

A Message from your Leading Knight

Hi everybody, it’s nice to see you all again. I hope you’re enjoying the bulletin. We are working hard to make it informational and helpful so you know what’s going on at your lodge.
If you see an event that you would like to help with, please feel free to join the other volunteers as they would love the extra hands.
Don’t forget to get your dinner tickets for our New Year’s Eve fund raising event. The earlier the better.  Social hour from 5pm – 6pm with finger food, a prime rib dinner at 6pm with the works and dessert, raffles, door prizes, silent auction, gift basket raffle, live music and more.
This year’s gala is to support our own lodge since we ourselves are a charitable organization and in need of a little boost so please come out and support your lodge.
In other news, the new welcoming elk stand is progressing well. Scott Mackeil, Tim Falone, Jim Felkner, Dennis Craven, Bobby Johnson, Ralph Alphano and yours truly spent the last couple weekends working on it.
The new dishwasher got hooked up on the nineteenth of last month…just in time for the holiday events. Hoorayyyy! Next, we have to have some custom-made drain boards and a table made for it. All things good take time.
In closing, let me just say THANK-YOU to all of you that come out to enjoy the dinners, karaoke, steak shoot and all of the other things we do for our good members of the lodge. Your patronage is greatly appreciated! May God bless you all.
Fraternally yours,

Phil Rafferty E.L.K.
