EXALTED RULER'S MESSAGE

As we begin the month of August I would like to start by reminding everyone that the schools here in Hernando County will be back in session the 13th of the month.  Please be careful when driving around during school hours.  We would like to keep all our students safe.  The lodge has also used the gratitude grant again this year to help with the back pack program that provides needy children with a back pack full of food every Friday to take home so they have meals over the weekends.

We have met with the contractor and the plans have been drawn up for the new bar and are being submitted to the building department for our permits. Once they are approved, the building will begin.  I know it has been a long process but that is how it works in the county and we have to follow the rules so that we don't get fined for building without a permit.

I attended the Grand Lodge Convention and there were over 8000 Elks there for the meeting. We all had a great time and many changes to the statutes were voted on and most passed.  I have the results at the lodge if anyone would like to read them and how the voting went on each.  Richard and Sue Ferguson who have been members for many years at Brooksville Lodge are moving to Arizona to be closer to their family that lives there. I would like to thank them both for all the years of service to the lodge and let them know that they will be missed very much.  They will be leaving in September so if anyone would like to say their goodbyes please do so soon.

The lodge wants to do a second Friday dinner during the month. We are going to try and start that up in September or October. We hope that members will enjoy this and attend.

I hope that everyone has a great summer and please come to the lodge soon for a drink or dinner.   Also remember to buy the lodge a round for the Elks’ National Foundation.

HOUSE COMMITTEE MESSAGE

Greetings from the House Committee.

As we have said before, the summer months are slow at the lodge, and we really need our members’ support.  We have lasagna on the menu for our Friday night dinner and steak and pork loin for the Saturday night dinner.  Who wants to heat up their kitchen cooking in August? Come eat dinner at your lodge!

As always, please purchase your dinner tickets in advance or make a reservation. We always look forward to seeing you!

We just want to wish all a safe and fun summer. Please remember to be kind to others, for you may not know their struggles.

 God Bless.
The House Committee

A Message from Your Leading Knight

Hello everyone, nice to chat with you again. Boy, it’s hot, hot, hot!  WHEW!

I’m going to talk about progress today. Progress is everywhere in the lodge. If you haven’t popped in lately, you will be mildly surprised at our progress. The carpet is coming up to get ready for the new laminate floor, the permits for the bar are forthcoming, the great hall has been painted, the dance floor has been cleaned and polished, and the list goes on. Stop in and say hello to our new bartender Tom and marvel at all the changes.
Tom is one of our American Veterans who has served our country well. Stop in, shake his hand and thank him. He is well deserving of it.

In other news, the mower received new blades and Dennis is doing his best to keep up with Mother Nature. Thanks Dennis!

A few other thank you’s I’d like to mention is to Bob and Diane Hein for keeping the marquee up to date and all the other hours of volunteering they do. Also, to Rich and Cindy Griffiths for running steak shoot and kitchen help. Rich and Cindy were made Elks of the month last month…kudos! There are others…you know who you are. THANK YOU ALL!! Upcoming events are in your bulletin. Please read them and make reservations early to come and enjoy some of them.

I am hosting the fundraising New Year’s Eve party again this year. There will be raffles, door prizes, and a few other surprises. The meal will be Cornish hen since it was requested by many last year.

Make your reservations early by calling the lodge at 352 799 7148.

Fraternally yours,

Phil Rafferty E.L.K
