The President is Coming!
Florida State Elks Association Carl Gerace and his entourage will be visiting West Citrus Elks Lodge on Friday, October 13th and 14th. On Saturday, we are planning a chili cook off with a pig roast. This delicious event will be combined with a membership drive! All members and guests are invited. Admission is free; however, tickets will be sold for the chili samples and pig tasting. On Saturday night, the 14th, starting at 5:00 PM there will be a dinner and program honoring the President and our District Lodges. Tickets will go on sale September 11th at 10:00 AM in the West Citrus Lounge. You can also buy tickets for this event by calling 352-628-1221 and using a credit card. The meal choices are Roast Beef or Chicken Cordon Bleu, served with Caesar salad, mashed potatoes w/gravy, peas w/pearl onions, dinner rolls, apple cobbler w/whipped cream and coffee. The cost is $16.00 per ticket. There will be no entertainment that night, just the President’s presentations. Ticket sales will be closed at the end of the day on October 9th. Please come out and show our State President what a friendly and welcoming Lodge and District we are!! If you have any questions or would like to enter a chili for the cook off, please call Ed James at (850) 464-0304.
EXALTED RULER'S MESSAGE
I hope all is well with all of our members with Hurricane Irma coming thru our area. Our lodge didn't have a lot of building damage, but we were without power for nine days which caused us to lose everything in the refrigerator. The beer kegs in the walk in cooler were also lost. There was damage to the front fence and the storm blew lots of water and dirt into the back screened area. I would like to thank Suzanne Craven for keeping the lodge open and running for our members who took shelter in the lodge during the storm. Also a big thanks to Dennis Craven for bringing his generator to the lodge which was used to keep the 3 freezers going and that saved all the food in them. Thank you to Bob Johnson for being our watchman of the lodge. With no alarm system it’s nice to have him as our neighbor. When the power was restored, the cleaning and repairing of the lodge began. I would like to thank Suzanne and Bobbie for all they have done for the lodge with painting and cleaning. They have been at the lodge everyday working on things. Thank you to Dennis Craven and Dave McLean for power washing the back room and to Dave McLean and Phil Rafferty for painting the floor in the back. A big thank you to Al and Linda Pearson for coming down and helping with everything that was going on. I know they helped on all our projects. We hope that everyone likes the lodge's new looks from after the storm. Again I can't say thank you enough to all the people who helped repair and clean our lodge. You show what team work and love of the lodge can do.

MESSAGE FROM THE LEADING KNIGHT
Hello everybody! Lots of news this month.
Let’s start with the New Year’s Eve semi-formal (no jeans please) fund-raising gala. We have decided to lower the ticket price for you because of your most gracious generosity these past months. Your patronage is and always will be greatly appreciated!! Prime rib dinner tickets are now $30.00 per person and entertainment only is still $20.00 each person. There are a limited number of seats so get your tickets REALLY early. (advance ticket sales allow us to purchase the right amount of food) Absolutely no meal tickets will be sold at the door but entertainment only tickets will be available if there is any left by the start of the party…. More to come.
In other news, Brand spanking new L.E.D lighting in several areas of the building has been installed, namely the great hall, the kitchen, bar and the bathrooms. The 36 lights in the great hall are now dimmable! How’s that for progress?! I love it!!!! We went from using approximately 4300 watts of energy per hour in the hall lights to about 1080 per hour. Tremendous savings don’t you think? Thank you for supporting us and allowing us to make the switch! (Heh heh, no pun intended) - And, thank you - Scotty, Dennis, Larry, and Bobby for all your dedicated hours on the installation!! We have also installed an ATM machine for your convenience.
Just so you know, the board of directors has okayed the repair of the front door awning, (being repaired as we speak), is considering other options for our CO2 product (the gas that pushes the beer and soda out of the taps), a hood cleaning contract and an A/C maintenance contract among other necessary lodge improvements. If yer not here, yer missing out!
Please come join us for karaoke on Tuesdays with lunch served, steak shoot on the first Saturday of the month with food and entertainment to follow, the third Saturday of the month for steak dinner (which by the way is out of this world delicious) and entertainment and a Friday or two with dinner and entertainment. (The fish is to die for…) It’s all listed on the bulletin calendar. By the way, we need help getting advertisers for our bulletin to help offset the cost of its production. For more details call me at 813 352 1261 from 9am to 5pm.
In closing, hurricane Irma slowed us down a little but She didn’t stop us. ELKS ARE THE GREATEST PEOPLE ON EARTH!!! God bless us all.
